CAFTA-DR Overridden, 10% IEEPA Tariff Applied to El Salvador Imports from April 5, 2025
President Trump's April 2, 2025 executive order imposed a minimum 10% tariff on all U.S. imports from El Salvador effective April 5, 2025, notwithstanding El Salvador's CAFTA-DR duty-free status. U.S.-El Salvador goods trade totaled $6.9 billion in 2024, with the U.S. running a $2.2 billion surplus, key Salvadoran exports to the U.S. include apparel and textiles.
